He sat in the park, the crisp autumn air doing little to cool the fire in his chest. He’d spent the entire day perfecting the playlist for their picnic. He'd even practiced his toast, his carefully chosen words meant to melt her heart. The setting sun cast long shadows across the park, each one stretching longer with every passing minute. He was beginning to sweat. A woman, her face pale, her eyes brimming with unshed tears, approached him. She held a hand-written letter, the same one he'd been planning to write. She looked at him, then, with a defeated expression.
