The phone rang again. Another creditor, another demand. Sophia ignored it, her stomach twisting into knots. The house loomed over her, a constant reminder of her predicament.

She walked through the echoing rooms, the silence deafening. She didn’t know how to sell it, where to start. She was paralyzed by fear. Her breath came in shallow gasps.

She ran her hand over the dusty surface of the grand piano, its ivory keys yellowed with age. She had always dreamt of learning to play, but now, the dream felt impossible. She slumped onto the bench, her head in her hands.
