She clutched the worn leather wallet, her knuckles white. Sunlight sliced through the grimy alley, illuminating the thick stack of bills. Clara’s breath hitched in her chest. Her car was about to be repossessed. Her student loans had been in default for months. Her apartment was threatened.

A low moan escaped her lips. She could buy herself some time, a chance to breathe. The money could fix everything, at least temporarily.
