The old quilt, stitched by her great-grandmother, lay folded on the worn couch. Its vibrant colours, once a source of comfort, now seemed to mock her with their beauty. Elara knelt beside it, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns. She was close to breaking.

The medical bills had piled up, a mountain of debt threatening to bury her. She'd sold everything else of value. Her apartment, once filled with laughter, now felt cold and empty.
