The morning sun felt like an accusation on Amelia's face as she peered through the gap in her fence. Again. There, Rufus, the golden retriever menace, was happily digging up her prize-winning rose bushes. Her hands clenched into fists, nails biting into her palms. She needed those roses for the competition.

"Rufus! Get out of there!" she yelled, her voice cracking. The dog just looked at her, tongue lolling, a muddy paw raised. A wave of exhaustion washed over her. She'd tried everything – polite notes, angry yells, even a strategically placed sprinkler system. Nothing worked.

Amelia slammed her front door shut and trudged back inside. The weight of it all pressed down on her chest, each failure a fresh blow. She'd invested so much time and effort into her garden, into this competition. Now, she felt like she was fighting a losing battle against a furry, four-legged tornado.
