The air in the arena was thick with anticipation, but Michael felt like he was suffocating. He watched the other hopefuls, their faces alight with nervous energy, their movements crisp and confident. He’d practiced tirelessly, he’d pushed himself past his limits, he had worked harder than anyone. The truth was, he wasn’t good enough, and he knew it.
