The attic air hung thick and heavy with the scent of dust and decay. Sarah coughed, the stale air scratching at her throat as she brushed cobwebs from a forgotten trunk. The photos she unearthed were the final nail in the coffin. A carefully constructed facade.

The woman in the photos, her Great Aunt Millie, the supposed spinster with a penchant for cats and needlepoint, was pictured in glamorous poses, laughing with various men. Men who were not her grandfather. Sarah found herself unable to breathe, the weight of the lies pressing down on her.

Her palms were clammy. She felt a primal urge to destroy everything, to rip the photographs apart, to erase the evidence. She wanted to scream, to lash out. The anger bubbled inside her, a boiling cauldron threatening to erupt. She was teetering on the edge of the abyss.
