The noise of the party intensified, a cacophony of sound that hammered against his skull. He kept his back to the wall, trying to fade into the background. His heart raced, each beat echoing the growing panic in his chest.

He'd tried to write something, anything, that would be worthy. But his mind was a blank canvas. The words wouldn’t come. The fear was a lead weight, holding him down.

His sister was gesturing, nodding toward the stage. The moment was upon him. He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the darkness consume him. He took a deep, shuddering breath. He had no plan.
