“No, no, no,” David mumbled, staring at the screen. Mrs. Peterson, his drama teacher, was following him on Facebook. His stomach clenched. He’d been slacking off in her class, mostly because his parents were going through a painful divorce. The pressure had been immense. He couldn't focus. Now, her judging eyes would be able to follow his every move.

He pictured her scrolling through his photos, reading his posts, dissecting his every word. He envisioned the inevitable conversation in class, the pointed questions, the disappointed frown. His throat tightened with dread.

He'd been thinking about dropping out. The thought now seemed to intensify. It felt like his entire life was under a microscope. He didn’t want to face her. He switched off his phone, the silence of his room now a crushing weight.
