The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and stale hope. Amelia gripped the phone until her knuckles were white. Her life, her son's future, hinged on this. She had crafted each word carefully. When she sent the message she felt a momentary sense of relief, until a new wave of panic coursed through her. She gasped when she looked at the name. It wasn't the number she'd painstakingly written down. She let the phone fall from her hand, the screen facing up. She was trapped. She felt so lost.
