“We’re going to be fine, Jessica,” Michael said, his voice unusually high-pitched. She ignored him. She was picturing the hospital, her mother, her mother's illness. She needed to be there.

She kept checking her watch. Every second was an eternity. She had to get to her mother. The longer she was stuck, the worse it would become. She needed to get out, she needed to be free.

She began to pace, back and forth, muttering under her breath. She started to sweat and felt her shirt stick to her back. She bit her lip and started to cry.
