The silence of the apartment was filled with the echoing emptiness of a failed dream. Sarah stared at the resume she’d been working on for weeks, the blank spaces mocking her. The job market was brutal, and her savings were gone.

“You look wrecked,” said Mark, walking into her cube.

She gave a small, defeated shake of her head.

“Hey, Camp Riverside? Weren’t you there, too? I think I remember you doing some kind of water skiing.”

Sarah felt her stomach clench. Camp Riverside. The constant competition, the feeling of being judged, the endless pressure to perform. It was all a terrible memory.

“Yeah, I was there,” she said, her voice strained. She wanted to scream.
