“Damn it all to hell,” Leo whispered, his voice hoarse. The neighbor’s birch had fallen, and it had landed squarely on the only car he owned. He was late for a date – the only date he’d had in months. He had spent hours getting ready, practicing his lines.

His jaw clenched. He surveyed the wreckage, his heart plummeting. He had to make an impression. He had to show he was doing well. He slammed his fist on the hood of the car, the metal denting beneath his blow. He sank down, head in his hands, defeated.
