"Unbelievable," Clara muttered, staring at the collapsed willow, and the blocked entrance to her store. Her lease was up. Rent was due. She had a grand opening planned for tomorrow. Her mind raced, a frantic carousel of worries.

Her hands shook as she dialed her landlord. The automated voice on the other end, its monotonous tone, grated on her nerves. She slammed the phone down. A cold sweat slicked her skin. The entire thing, it seemed, was crumbling around her. She was losing everything.
