The email arrived at 3:17 AM. Sarah stared at the flickering screen, the words blurring despite her glasses. "Financial Insolvency." It was a cold, clinical term for the end of everything she’d worked for. Her breath hitched, shallow and ragged. She clawed at her throat, as if a physical pressure was building. Her scholarship was gone. Her carefully constructed future, reduced to a single sentence. She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent dorm room. Panic threatened to overwhelm her.

She fumbled for her phone, scrolling through contacts with trembling fingers. Who could she call at this hour? Her parents, who’d already stretched themselves thin to help with tuition? Her voice would betray her, and she wasn't ready to burden them yet. She tossed the phone aside and paced the small space, the cheap linoleum cold against her bare feet.

The morning light crept through the window, painting the room in a grim gray hue. She pulled on her oldest jeans and a faded hoodie, the fabric familiar and comforting, a small shield against the storm brewing inside. The campus, usually buzzing with life, felt deserted, the buildings looming like empty tombs.
