The flickering neon sign of the diner cast an eerie glow on the rain-slicked street. Marcus huddled deeper into his threadbare coat, clutching the crumpled flyer in his trembling hand. Every lead had evaporated. Every avenue closed. His savings were gone, and so was his will to fight. The pain was relentless, a constant throb that permeated every inch of his being. The coffee in front of him sat untouched, its warmth a mocking reminder of what he had already lost. He felt he was being pulled under by an invisible undertow, deeper and deeper.
