Her hands trembled as she gestured toward the overgrown weeds. The landlord's ultimatum hung in the air, a threat she couldn't ignore. She’d promised her daughter a swing set, and a garden felt like the only way to keep their small, fragile world from collapsing.

The sun beat down on her, exacerbating the pressure building inside. She watched as Mr. Thompson outlined his plans, his voice filled with carefree optimism. It was a stark contrast to the fear that was coursing through her.

"Anything," she thought, as she agreed to his proposal. She'd do anything to hold on, to prevent the inevitable. The words, however, wouldn't come out.
