The notice, a stark white rectangle, quivered in Amelia’s trembling hand. It announced the conversion, the inevitable sale. Her breath hitched, catching in her chest. She reread the words, the legalese blurring. The chipped paint on the hallway wall seemed to mock her.

She slammed the paper onto the kitchen counter, the cheap laminate rattling. Empty coffee mugs, remnants of a caffeine-fueled panic, sat abandoned. Her phone vibrated incessantly with calls from creditors, already breathing down her neck. She paced the cramped kitchen, a caged animal.

"This can't be happening," she whispered to the empty room. The thought of finding a new place, the mounting expenses, the utter lack of resources… it was too much. Her stomach clenched into a hard knot. She felt a wave of nausea, her vision blurring at the edges.
