The silence of the attic was almost worse than the din of the house. Leo, dusting cobwebs off a forgotten box, found himself staring at the artwork. His niece, Amy, had somehow gotten into his old things. He wasn't surprised to see a familiar, horrifying face staring back at him from the paper. He recognized the shape.

The feeling was one of profound revulsion. He wanted to take the drawings and burn them all. He wanted to erase the past, to destroy every last trace of that… thing. The air was suddenly thick, constricting his chest. He slammed the lid of the box shut, the sound echoing in the stillness.
