Gemotions

The campus cafe was bustling, a cacophony of chatter and clinking mugs. She sat at a corner table, alone, the unopened envelope resting on the worn surface. People milled about, their faces alight with the easy camaraderie of shared experiences and bright futures. She watched them, a sour taste coating her tongue. She finally ripped open the envelope, the paper tearing with a decisive rip. It was as expected. She pushed the letter away, not wanting to deal with the disappointment. She was suddenly acutely aware of how much she hated this place, and how much she felt like an outsider.
