"Well, this is just great," muttered Kevin, his voice laced with acid. He was staring at the welcome packet for his daughter, Chloe's, new school year. The cover photo showed a smiling Mrs. Davis, the kindergarten teacher. It was the same Mrs. Davis who had made Kevin's early school years a living hell. The woman who saw only negativity and never had a kind word to say.

He threw the packet onto the kitchen table with a resounding thud. The mundane object felt heavy, like a lead weight. His gaze drifted to Chloe, happily coloring at the table. He couldn't shake the image of his daughter, vulnerable and trusting, facing the same judgmental glare he’d once endured.

He slammed his fist against the table. The action was involuntary. He needed to be strong, to protect her. But the feeling of helplessness, of being trapped in a cycle of familiar unpleasantness, washed over him, leaving him feeling utterly dispirited.
