Gemotions

The glossy photograph of the high school gymnasium on the invitation made her stomach churn. Jessica tossed it onto the kitchen table, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent house. The smell of the food she was preparing, chicken and asparagus, made her nauseous.

She ran her hand through her hair, smoothing it back from her face. Twenty years. The years had passed, but nothing had changed. The same cliques, the same judgments, the same relentless pressure to conform. Why would she want to step back into the time warp?

She poured herself a glass of wine and then proceeded to ignore the invitation as she went back to her cooking.
