“How dare they,” Mildred muttered, holding the newspaper. The headlines screamed, "Celebrity Chef's Award-Winning Apple Pie!" Mildred, a woman of eighty-five, knew that apple pie. That was her recipe, the one she had perfected over decades.

She felt a tremor run through her. The chef, a charming young man she’d briefly met at a bake-off, had been so complimentary, so eager to learn her secrets. She’d shared the recipe freely, thinking she was helping a young artist. The nerve of it!

Mildred set down the paper. Her cheeks were flushed. She would have to do something. She would call the newspaper. She would tell everyone. Her eyes narrowed. Perhaps, she would bake her own pie, as a protest.
