Gemotions

The information slammed into him like a rogue wave. Ben stared at the email, the words blurring before his eyes. Dr. Ramirez was retiring. Leaving. He felt his hands ball into fists. He had seen it coming, of course. Ramirez had been dropping hints for months, but still… He felt a familiar knot forming in his stomach, the same one that appeared before every meeting.

He stood up, shoving his hands in his pockets. The campus outside his window looked insipid, lifeless. The vibrant colors of the trees seemed to mock him. He turned away from the window, and headed out the door.
