He glared at the envelope. Cream-colored, embossed with a ridiculous floral design. “Dearest Jackson,” the letter began, instantly setting his teeth on edge. The writer, this unknown half-sister, had clearly inherited his father's flair for the dramatic. He ripped it open with a brutal tear, ignoring the flimsy paper’s attempt at elegance.

He skimmed the words, a knot forming in his gut. A shared childhood memory, a heartfelt plea to connect. It was all so… sentimental. Jackson let out a harsh breath, tossing the letter onto the mahogany desk. He picked up his pen and began circling the date in his planner: the date he was supposed to meet this new addition to his family.

He stared out the window, at the perfectly manicured lawn of his estate. He had built this life. Earned it. Now, some stranger was trying to barge in. He ran a hand through his perfectly coiffed hair. He needed a drink. Immediately.
