“Oh, marvelous,” she muttered under her breath, staring at the extravagant display of lilies and orchids. She placed them with a pointed lack of care onto the hall table, next to the already overflowing wastebasket of junk mail. She would leave them there to die.

A bitter laugh escaped her lips. Always the grand gestures. Always the elaborate attempts to… appease. Her fingers itched to tear them apart. She resisted the urge. Instead, she straightened her back and walked away. No need to acknowledge.
