He found it wedged between the mattress and the bed frame. A thick, spiral-bound notebook. Inside, Amelia recognized her life's story, written by Robert, her beloved husband. Or, at least, a version of it.

She read a few sentences. Her character, "Elise," was a whiny, self-absorbed drama queen. Robert had clearly taken some creative liberties. She slammed the notebook shut, the sound sharp in the quiet room. Her fists clenched.

She walked into the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face. Her reflection stared back at her, a stranger. She had to wonder, had he *always* seen her like that?
