The discovery, made in a newly renovated basement, felt like a deliberate interruption. For a moment, she just stared at it, frozen.

Inside the plastic container was a book. She recognized the cover. She had loved this book once, but she no longer wanted to. She knew exactly what was inside.

She opened the book and flicked through the pages. The words now felt saccharine and cloying. She tossed it back in, her face contorted in a slight grimace.
