He found the list tucked inside a battered copy of "Moby Dick," a book he’d always considered pretentious. He, Thomas, scanned the messy handwriting with a curl of his lip. "Visit the Amazon rainforest." Really? After all their carefully planned trips to the opera?

The words seemed to mock him, each wish a tiny pinprick against his carefully constructed world. He hated the implication that his life, their life, was somehow...lacking. He felt a knot tighten in his stomach.

"Try skydiving?" He snorted. The audacity. He slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet room. He walked to the window, staring out at the manicured lawn, the perfect symmetry of the garden. A perfect life. It should have been enough.
