Gemotions

The weight of the notice felt heavy in Maria's hand. She turned the paper over and over, examining the glossy finish, the carefully chosen photographs of smiling families. She found herself utterly repulsed. The images felt fake, the words hollow.

She ripped the paper in half, then again, and again, until it was nothing but small, meaningless scraps. She tossed the pieces into the trash. She already knew she would hate the changes, the new people, the new rules.

She looked around her apartment, a space filled with memories, with history. She felt a profound sense of possessiveness. She didn't want to share her space, or her life, with anyone from that brochure. She just wanted to be left alone.
