Gemotions

The family gathering felt like a funeral. The normally cheerful faces were drawn, strained, as my brother, now sporting a neatly trimmed beard, spoke about his new commitment. He’d swapped his rock band t-shirts for simple, flowing robes. The food, a bland and unfamiliar stew, sat untouched on plates. I felt a sense of profound unease, a deep internal revulsion. I couldn't stand to look at him, at his calm face, and the serenity he wore, like a mask. The urge to flee was overwhelming. I invented a pressing engagement and bolted from the room.
