The instruction manual felt heavy in his hands. He hated this, every single facet of this training. The way the trainee constantly adjusted their posture, the way they took notes with such enthusiasm; it all felt wrong.

He cleared his throat. "Okay, so next, you'll need to learn about..." His voice cracked. He felt his face flush with a heat that had nothing to do with the temperature of the room. He felt a deep, sickening lurch in his gut.

He slammed his pen on the desk, startling the trainee. He forced himself to continue, reciting the information with a monotone voice, wanting nothing more than to be done with this charade. The chair squeaked as the trainee shifted, and he could barely stand it.
