“Well, isn’t this cozy?” Kevin muttered under his breath. He was staring at the team lunch, a celebratory spread arranged for the new, higher-paid recruit, Ben. He felt a knot in his gut.

He eyed the buffet table, the catered food suddenly revolting in its extravagance. The smell of the food was making him feel unwell. His colleagues laughed and joked, their voices grating on his ears.

He excused himself, the sound of their merriment chasing him from the room. He walked to the men's room, leaned over the sink, splashing cold water on his face.
