The smell hit Clara first. A sour, stale odor emanating from the black leather wallet nestled in the overgrown bushes. She wrinkled her nose, her hand instinctively reaching for her own purse to take out some hand sanitizer.

She pulled the wallet out, her fingers barely brushing against the material. She saw the stacks of cash through the opening, the neat crispness of the bills mocking her. She felt like she wanted to vomit.

She couldn’t stand the idea of touching it any longer. She dropped it back into the bushes, the whole episode making her want to just go home and take a shower.
