The newspaper lay open on the kitchen counter, the headline screaming: "Chef Antoine's Acclaimed Soufflé: Now Available Nationwide!" Antoine, the arrogant chef from the rival restaurant, had somehow gotten his hands on her grandmother’s prized recipe. It was the only thing she had left of her.

A wave of nausea washed over her. The beautiful picture of the soufflé, all fluffy and golden, made her want to retch. She threw the paper into the recycling bin, her movements sharp and jerky.

She felt a hollowness in her chest, a void where pride should have been. It had been like a punch to the gut. The thought of that man getting acclaim for her work – her family's work – was intolerable.
