Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the living room, always a source of joy, now seemed garish and overwhelming. Jessica wanted to shut her eyes, as if by doing so, she could erase the reality of her newfound origins. Her mother walked in, her face bright and smiling, and the sight of her sent a jolt of revulsion through Jessica.

She excused herself abruptly and went to the back yard and began to pull up weeds, savagely yanking them from the earth. The dirt under her nails became a physical manifestation of the knowledge that now clung to her like a shroud. This was her therapy; she couldn't stop.
