"So, what do you think of that?" The smug tone of the administrator was enough to make Mark's jaw clench. He’d never heard his own voice sound so tight, so controlled. He stared at the documents, the ink on the page seemed to burn.

His palms were clammy. He wanted to wipe them on his jeans, but didn’t want to show any weakness. He took a long, shaky breath, fighting the urge to shatter something.

He bit down hard on the inside of his cheek, the metallic tang of blood a welcome distraction. The world seemed to wobble slightly. He would not be pitied.
