The salt-laced wind whipped around Maya’s face as she watched Ben, her Ben, laughing with a group of sun-kissed strangers on the beach. He looked… happy. And the thought of that happiness not including her twisted her insides.

The sand, once a source of endless joy, felt gritty and unclean beneath her bare feet. The vibrant turquoise water seemed somehow polluted, tainted by his carefree ignorance.

She turned and started walking, each footfall a heavy thud against the packed sand. The ocean’s roar, once comforting, now felt like a mocking echo of their shared past.
