Gemotions

The string quartet began, the familiar introduction resonating through the large hall. Then the singer began. Her voice, a shrill, untrained instrument, tore through the delicate arrangement of his piece. He felt a cold shiver run down his spine, followed by a sudden flush of heat.

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. The faces of the audience, initially attentive, were now beginning to reflect a similar discomfort. He felt a knot tighten in his stomach, a deep, primal unease. He wanted to disappear, to melt into the shadows. He remained, but his every muscle ached with the effort of holding still.
