The interview went well, he said, when he got home, talking about a meeting with a journalist promoting his book. She’d known. She’d read the excerpts online. He’d given an interview and her vulnerabilities were now accessible.

She stared at the glass of water he offered. He'd captured her vulnerability in a way she would never have chosen. It felt like her skin was crawling. She couldn't swallow. The words, the phrases, the detailed descriptions…she couldn't shake them from her mind.

She excused herself to the bedroom and locked the door. She wrapped herself in a blanket and sat, unable to move.
