He stared at the email, the words blurring on the screen. The familiar, sterile lines of the message from his sister swam. “I'm finding comfort in the Church of Scientology.” He took a deep breath, the air in the cramped apartment seeming suddenly thin. He hadn’t seen his sister in months, years even. The announcement was so jarring, so unlike anything he could imagine. He leaned back in his chair, feeling like he was falling. The room tilted precariously. He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to ground himself.
