The car keys felt heavy in his trembling hand. He’d just left the cafe, the scent of espresso clinging to his clothes, and the conversation with Chloe still echoed in his ears. Her casual confession – the part about “not actually running a hedge fund,” but working at a library – had knocked the wind out of him. He wasn't sure how to feel.
