The silence in the car was deafening. Every mile on the highway seemed to stretch out endlessly, blurring together. She kept glancing at the passenger seat, at her husband, as if she didn't recognize him. He fiddled with the radio. She’d found the phone, tucked away in the glove compartment. The unanswered calls, the blocked number, all pointing to something she didn't understand. She clutched the steering wheel so hard her knuckles were white.
