The name on the bulletin board was a punch to the gut. Michael froze in the doorway, staring at the brightly colored poster with the list of teachers. Mr. Harrison. The man who'd once called him "lazy" and "unmotivated." He felt the familiar sting of shame, a sensation he thought he had buried long ago.

He stepped back, wanting to escape. He felt a sudden need to run and keep running. His mouth went dry. His hands began to sweat. He closed his eyes, then opened them again, as if the physical act would somehow change the reality before him.

He felt a deep churning in his stomach. He was not sure he could face this. Not again.
