He felt a strange lightness, as if his feet weren't quite touching the ground. He'd wandered the streets for hours, lost in a maze of familiar landmarks that suddenly felt foreign. He had to face this.

His appointment was with Dr. Susan Peterson. He knew that name, somewhere in the recesses of his mind. She'd been a blur of pigtails and whispered threats, a constant shadow in his childhood.

He pulled up in the parking lot. He felt his head spinning. A sign read, “Therapy for You.” He could scarcely believe his eyes.
