Gemotions

The world had gone slightly out of focus. Michael sat on the edge of the bed, the glossy bank statement lying open on the comforter. He'd found it tucked inside a box of old photographs. A substantial sum, accruing interest. He felt a disconnect, as if he were an observer watching someone else's life unfold.

He rose and wandered aimlessly into the living room, feeling adrift. The grandfather clock in the hallway ticked loudly, each second amplifying the silence.

His wife, Emily, would be home soon. He had no idea how to explain this, this enormous betrayal he'd just discovered. His stomach churned. He felt terribly, utterly unmoored.
