He woke up with a start, his heart hammering against his ribs. Leo sat up in bed, instantly registering the book on the nightstand. The title, *The Inescapable Truth*, made him feel a sense of dread. He remembered finding it on the top shelf, out of the way, and felt a cold wave of something he couldn't name wash over him. His head throbbed. He turned to look at the sleeping form beside him, the woman he loved. The room seemed to contract around him, the air thick and heavy. He felt a profound sense of disorientation, a sensation of falling from a great height. He was drowning.
