"What do you think, Uncle Jack?" Maya asked, holding up her latest picture. Jack barely glanced up from the paperwork that consumed his life. He felt heavy, worn down, like a machine running on fumes. Then he saw the picture. The creature from his childhood, his friend. Jack felt the world begin to tilt. All the colour had drained from his world. He wanted to go back. Back to a time when things made sense, when his friend could provide the solace he needed. The familiar form, rendered in bright colours, seemed to mock his current existence.
