Gemotions

The vibrant city lights seemed to mock David's gloom. He leaned against the damp brick wall, the taste of stale pizza in his mouth. Every opportunity had slipped through his fingers. He felt the familiar weight of disappointment.

He went to his childhood home, now empty and silent. In the guest room closet, a box sat. "David's Accomplishments," it read. His mother's handwriting, still as crisp as the day she wrote it.

He opened it, and was stunned by the contents. Awards, certificates, and essays chronicling his academic journey. He saw a younger version of himself, brimming with potential. He touched a faded ribbon for a science fair project. He realized he was not as much of a failure as he thought.
