The office felt suffocating, the fluorescent lights buzzing a monotonous tune that grated on Liam's nerves. He hadn’t slept. The diary. It was like a black mark spreading across his existence. Everything he’d built, all his carefully constructed facades, were now threatened by the unvarnished truth of his adolescent self.

He kept replaying the events of yesterday, trying to find a reason, a clue, anything. He pushed his chair back from his desk, the squeak echoing in the otherwise empty office. His stomach twisted into a painful knot. He felt a deep sense of vulnerability, exposed and defenseless.
